Public Invited to Inaugural 5k Fun Run/Walk to Benefit Children with Speech and Hearing Disabilities
First-Ever DeMolay 5K will be held in Forest Park Upper Muny Lot on Saturday, June 16 at 8:00 a.m.
St. Louis, Mo. – June 16, 2018) Missouri DeMolay, a youth leadership organization, is preparing to hold its first-ever ‘DeMolay 5K Fun Run and Walk’ to support area youth and children with speech and hearing disorders.
The DeMolay 5K was created by the young men of Missouri DeMolay to assist in preserving the free speech and language services offered at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic at Maryville University. The Walker Scottish Rite Clinic teaches two-through six-year-old children with speech and language disorders the communication skills necessary to succeed in school and throughout their lives. The Clinic is a charitable organization providing services to children in seven locations in St. Louis city, county and the communities of Arnold, Troy and Union, Missouri.
“Missouri DeMolay believes in the importance of youth stepping up to help other youth and demonstrating civic awareness in our community,” said event organizer and Missouri DeMolay Youth Leader, Nicholas Cova. “We were interested in finding a way to support the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic because of the amazing work they do for children in St. Louis, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We are offering awards for competitive runners, but we’re also encouraging families to come take part in a fun event for a good cause,” said Nova.
To register for the DeMolay 5K, go to http://5k.modemolay.org. The registration fee is $25 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The fee includes a T-shirt, backpacks, chip timing, snacks and beverages.
Registration opens at 7 a.m. on June 16 at the Upper Muny Parking Lot in Forest Park and the 5KWalk/Run will begin at 8:00. The Awards ceremony will be at 9 a.m. For questions about this story, or to register for the event, please contact Jessica Williams at 618-772-2349.
